Detail design of the Messina Strait Bridge road and rail access viaduct on the Sicily side, Southern Italy. Conceived so as to recall the Man Crossing deck shapes, comprises simply supported composite rail spans and continuous orthotropic plate steel spans for the road carriageways, both with typical span of 73 m and a total length of 438 m.

The ASTM group concessions comprise ADF Autostrada dei Fiori Inc, SALT Società Autostrada Ligure Toscana Inc, S.A.V. Società Autostrade Valdostane Inc, S.A.T.A.P. Inc, Autovia Padana Inc, Autostrada Asti-Cuneo Spa, SITAF Inc. Scope of work, carried out in a continuous manner, is concerned with the review and validation of the inspection and assessment activities aimed at the works priority definition, check of the implementation of the corresponding planning, case study analyses of seismic response and of allowable traffic loads.

A3 Motorway, Cosenza-Altilia Section

The Cosenza-Altilia segment of the A3 motorway runs for about 30 km South of Cosenza in Southern Italy. Within the activities for the renewal of the motorway E.D.In. carried out the design of several bridges and viaducts, among the most notable a 169 m span steel arch to replace the existing Ruiz viaduct and a continuous composite viaduct with spans up to 120 m to replace the existing Stupino viaduct.

A1 Motorway, Apennines Bypass

Central Italy, 2007-2008

Client San Benedetto Val di Sambro Scarl

Within the Apennines Bypass of the A1 Motorway from Sasso Marconi to Barberino di Mugello in Central Italy, lots 6 and 7, E.D.In. developed the construction design of the Molino di Setta and Sparvo viaducts, for a total length of about 2 km. The viaducts feature a continuous beam scheme, with steel-concrete composite decks of 6 and 7 span respectively, whose length is from 55 to 120 m.

Detail and construction design of bridges and viaducts, Main Roads SS182 “Trasversale delle Serre” and SS106 “Ionica”, Gerace Junction and Caulonia By-pass. Comprise the Turriti II viaduct, overall length 645 m, the Gerace viaducts and its ramps, as well as five viaducts with overall length up to 500m, all with steel-concrete composite decks.

Main Road SS372 “Telesina”

Client ANAS Inc

Doubling project of the Main Road SS372 “Telesina”, an important link in Campania, Southern Italy. For Lot 1, from San Salvatore Telese to Benevento, E.D.In. was in charge of the detailed design of twenty five viaducts, among which most relevant are named Maria Cristina, Pantano and Sanniti, all on the Calore river, with composite continuous beam structure. Fifteen existing viaducts have been upgraded as well, replacing their prestressed concrete simply supported decks with new continuous beam composite ones, preserving and refurbishing piers and foundations. All the viaducts are seismically isolated. Last, Lot 1 comprises five underpasses and eleven flyovers, whose typology is the winner of the “Reinventa Cavalcavia” design contest.

It is presently under development the detail and construction design of the Lot 2 of the same Main Road, comprising as main works the bridges on the Volturno and Titerno rivers.

The known new bridge on the Polcevera Valley, that replaced the Morandi bridge collapsed in 2018. Scope of work comprised consultancy for the review of the detailed design, numerical analyses of the erection stages for the construction drawings and for the simulation of the as built erection, assistance to load testing.
